With Christmas just around the corner, we would like to thank you for your support throughout what has been a tumultuous year. We would also like to share with you some important news, reminders and law changes coming in the new year.
Reminder for Employees and Employers
December is a busy time for all and it is easy to forget that a written notice is required to be provided to employees affected by any annual close down period.
Subject to the specific terms of an employment agreement, the law prescribes that no less than 14 days’ written notice is needed before an employer can require employees not to work during the close down period.

Incoming Trusts Act 2019 – Significant Changes
If you either have a family trust or have expressed interests in setting one up, the incoming Trusts Act 2019, which comes into force on 30 January 2021, will bring about significant changes that will affect all Trustees, Settlors and Beneficiaries involved with the Trust.
Specifically, as of 30 January 2021, Trustees will have significantly increased compliance requirements and duties, whilst beneficiaries will have increased rights to access Trust information.

Trustees should take the opportunity to review their trust deeds and their administration practices to ensure they comply with the provisions of the Trusts Act 2019 before it comes into force on 30 January 2021.
